  2. Does Your RV Need A New Battery?

One of the most common issues we find we deal with in regards to RV'S is dead batteries. Nothing is worse than going to use your RV after it has been sitting and finding out you have no electrical power. Below is a list of a few things that we look for and address in regards to batteries.

    1. First off is do the batteries need to be replaced?
We have professional electronic testing equipment we use to determine if the batteries need to replaced in all of our RV'S. We never hesitate to replace the batteries if needed. We use strictly brand new replacement batteries. We are a licensed Interstate battery dealer as well an authorized Deka battery supplier.
1.A New batteries should be given a full charge before use.
1.B New batteries need to be cycled several times before reaching full capacity (50-125 cycles, depending on type). Performance will be limited during this period.
    2.  All battery cables and connections should be clean, tight and free of corrosion.
    3.  Make sure you use the battery disconnect when storing your RV for extended periods.
    4.  Make sure all lights, clocks and other items are turned off in your RV when not in use. we find some items like the LP gas detector, the refrigerator, and the radio are often overlooked.
    5.  Check the water level every couple of months and when necessary add distilled water to batteries.
    6.  If batteries need to be charged, do so at a lower charge rate overnight or for approximately eight hours.
    7.  Completely charge the batteries before storing and before using the RV after storage.
    8.  Another great way to extend battery life is a solar powered trickle charger system. Not all RV'S have them but they can usually be added for less than a couple of hundred dollars including installation.
